Projects

Tomislav's Creative Portfolio

"Landscape" paintings

"Landscape" paintings are a collection of

abstract-expressionist works distinct for

their careful colour selection and energetic

application. These works, with the largest

being 100x100 cm, aim to capture the

observer with their brightness and contrast.

With these paintings the artist allows the

colours to do the talking, and they have

a lot to say.

"Portrait paintings":

"Portrait paintings" is the artist's second collection. Each of these neo-expressionist works consist of unique and exaggerated facial features and unusual colour palettes. The artist brings feelings and states of being to life by giving them a face. However unusual, crooked or different, these characters are above all else real.

Further Thoughts

"With this portfolio I aim to showcase the diversity of my work by presenting

pieces of different sizes, themes, colour palettes and  motifs. These aren't complete collections, rather a few chosen examples from each category.  My work ranges from stunning museum-

ready paintings to striking and fun collectible works. I am prepared to use any method to achieve my goals

and I dedicate my entire life and spirit to creating."

Standout Features

Vibrant Creations

An undeniable staple in Tomislav's art is his unique way of creating contrast. He came up with the "Family Tree" method in colour selection, meaning he uses the same brush for all of his darker colours without washing off the previous colour used. Instead he keeps adding new colours while still having all of the previous ones in the brush. This creates a "Family Tree" of darker colours that go very well together. Only after this has been achieved does he grab a new brush and start mixing brighter colours for the piece. The result of this method is a completely new and unique way of contrasting colours, that makes the brighter colours pop a lot more.

Making art fun

A reoccurring theme in Tomislav's work is his expressive and striking portraits. These creations do not focus on great anatomy or conventional beauty. Instead these features are often exaggerated and highly distinct. This serves as a commentary on the unrealistic beauty standards in art, as well as a critique of the overt focus on realism in the industry. On the other hand, this makes Tomislav's art uniquely light-hearted and fun, which serves as a breath of fresh air in an industry that often takes itself too seriously.

Making art accessible

One of the most important aspects of art is it's powerful impact on a society and tendency to inspire people. Tomislav Grujica firmly believes that art should be accessible to everybody, regardless of their socioeconomic situation. Art should not be elitist. Art should not be in the hands of the privileged few. Art is for the people, which is why Tomislav has a very flexible price range when it comes to his work. With some pieces costing as low as 99 SEK, this is a way for the artist to give back to the people who made this dream possible.

About Me

Tomislav Grujica

Visual Artist

My name is Tomislav Grujica and I am a 20 year old self taught artist based in BorĂ¥s, Sweden. I'm a first generation immigrant from Croatia, and the struggles and obstacles that come with that status have undoubtedly had an effect on my work. With each piece created I celebrate the victories in life that brough me to this point and the privilege that has been granted to me to be an artist. I am fortunate to have amazing people around me that help me make it possible to create and share my work with all of you. With sincere gratitude and excitement I welcome you to join me on this journey.
